Mary (Brooks) Wardle was born in Loughborough, Leicestershire, England.

Mary Brooks was born in the second quarter of 1847 in Loughborough, Leicestershire, England, United Kingdom. She was the daughter of Joseph Brookes and Sarah Davies. ^[1][2]

In 1851 she was living in the house of her parents in Bridge Street, Loughborough. ^[3][4]

Mary Brooks (19, spinster of Bridge Street, Loughborough) the daughter of Joseph Brooks (a labourer) was married to Edward Wardle (20, bachelor, a framework knitter of Wellington Street, Loughborough), the son of William Wardle (framework knitter) by registrar's certificate on 1 Jan 1867 at Emmanuel Church, Loughborough, Leicestershire, England. Thomas Hanford and Rebecca Wardle were witnesses. Robert James Bunch B.A., rector, officiated. ^[5][6][7]

In 1871, Edward Wardle (24, a Cotton F W K) and his wife, Mary Wardle (24, a seamstress) had two children, William (3) and Edward (0) living with them in Loughborough. ^[8]

In 1880, Edward and Mary had twins, Sarah Ann, and Samuel (who died in early infancy). ^[9]

In 1881, Edward Wardle (34, Framework Knitter, Merino) and his wife, Mary Wardle (33, Stitcher, Cotton Hosiery) had four children, William (13, a winder), Edward (10, scholar), Rebecca (9, scholar) and Hannah (3) living with them at 9, Steeple Row, Loughborough, Leicestershire, England, United Kingdom. ^[10][11]

Living in the houshold with her was Samuel Wardle (28, single, a coal carter), Hannah Wardle (33, single, a plain hose maker), Hannah's daughter, Hannah Wardle (11, at school) and Mary's son, William's daughter, Clara (14, a back winder). William had died in an accident in 1898. We can see from the part of the census that Mary had filled in that Samuel was one of 12 children, of whom 9 had died and three were still living in 1911. ^[15][16]

Mary Wardle died in 1918 Q4 in Loughborough. ^[17]
