Biography

No baptism for Abraham Brown has been located at either Cricklade St Mary, Cricklade St Sampson or nearby Wiltshire parishes. However, an Abraham Brown was baptised on 17 Sep 1780 at Down Ampney, Gloucestershire, baseborn son of Catherine[1], Down Ampney, Gloucestershire, being only some 4-5 miles from Cricklade, Wiltshire.

Abraham Brown of Cricklade St Sampson married Esther Poulton of Cricklade St Sampson on 23 Sep 1804 at Cricklade St Sampson, Wiltshire.[2]

A Calendar of Prisoners - Wiltshire:[3]

Warminster Sessions. 15 Jul 1805. Abraham Brown. Committed by E. Goodenough, Clerk, charged on the oath of John Nicholas, of Latton, yeoman, and also on the confession of William Farmer, an accomplice, with feloniously killing and stealing, from and out of a field in the parish of Latton aforesaid, a ewe sheep, the property of the said John Nicholas. Warrant dated June 15, 1805. - Held for Assizes.

1805 Wiltshire Summer Assizes[4]

Abram Brown. Sheep Stealing. Found Not Guilty.

  • Abraham Brown (baptised on 21 Aug 1808 at Cricklade St Mary, Wiltshire, son of Hester, widow)[6]

Presumably Abraham Brown died between 1806 and 1808. A burial record has yet to be identified.
