George was born in 1844. He was the son of Bennett Brown and Susan Swindle. Family records record that George fought in the Civil War, was wounded and lost a leg. His mother reportedly travelled to Richmond, Virginia to bring him home, but George had unfortunately died after a leg amputation while she was on the way to get him and been buried. She was then prevented from visiting his grave due to a small pox outbreak in the area. He was buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia[1].
Private family records as well as find a grave notation lists George as having served in, been wounded and had a leg amputated in the Civil War, and dying as a result of that amputation in Richmond, Virginia in 1862. Further records and documentation of this would be helpful.
The National Park Service Civil War Database lists a Private George W. Brown as being in the 22nd Battalion, Georgia Heavy Artillery Company G, with an additional note it was also filed under the Cobb Guards, Georgia Infantry, however it's unclear if this is the George of this profile[2].
