Biography

Leah was the daughter of James and Mary Brown. A pension record for husband Solomon Brittingham reads: On 19 Oct 1860 Leah Brittingham of Peoria County IL, 77, applied for bounty land and a pension stating that as Leah Brown she married Solomon Brittingham on 25 Feb 1806, and that the wedding was witnessed by James Brown, 72, and Nancy Beathy, 64. She stated that after becoming a pensioner herhusband lived in Madison County OH and died in the town of Amity (P.O. West Canaan) in October or November 1835. Elsewhere she gave the date of her husband’s death as the 22nd of one of those months, and stated that she moved to Peoria County in 1843. She also stated that they had the following 11 children: Charlotte or Lotty, Polly, Abner, Reiley, James H., Nancy, Martha, Betsey, Enoch, Hester, and Celey. A document in the file states that a family record has the following entries: Solomon Brittingham was born the year seventeen hundred and sixty five April the 15th – Son of Jeremiah Brittingham ^[1]
