Biography

Sarah was a Friend (Quaker)

Sarah was born in Loudoun County, Virginia on December 22, 1769 to Quaker parents, Mercer Brown and Sarah Unknown.[1]

Sarah's family moved from Virginia to Georgia, being received at the Wrightsborough Quaker Monthly Meeting on March 5, 1785.[2] Her elder sister, Mary, didn't accompany the family.

Sarah married Amos Embree at Wrightsborough, Georgia sometime before February 7, 1789. A complaint was raised in the Wrightsborough Monthly Meeting about their disorderly marriage and carnal knowledge of each other prior to marriage. Their first child, Mary, was born in July, 1788. The Women's Monthly Meeting of March, 1789 reported that Sarah was desirous of making satisfaction for her outgoings and produced a paper acknowledging such that was read and received by them.[3] The matter with the Meeting was resolved by April. It is most likely that Sarah and Amos wanted to be reunited with their Quaker Meeting ahead of the birth of their second child, Rebecca, on December 2, 1789.

Brown-80001 and Brown-16454 appear to represent the same person because: These two are duplicates - the sourced bio of Brown-80001 is ready to add Amos Embree as husband, so same husband. The estimated birth date on Brown-16454 is only one year away from her confirmed DOB. And the earlier profile also refers to Georgia where Sarah moved with her family in 1785.
