Biography

Cressie Erva Brown was born 4 December 1909 in Lamoille, Nevada to Charles Edward Brown and Florence Hattie (Tulley) Brown. She was the 9th child of 17 children born. Cressie's parents lost several children: Eugene Arvid, b. 1898 and died age 2, Beatrice Victoria, b. 1900 and died age 2, twins b. (and died) in 1914, and a baby b. 1915 (and died) in 1915.

Cressie could play the piano by ear and played all her life. Her father had played piano in the theater for silent movies

In the 1910 U.S. Census, Cressie is a baby and living with her parents, Charles, 38, and Florence, 34, in Lamoille, Elko, Nevada. Also living there were 8 siblings: Chester, 11, Alda, 8, Carroll, 6, Sienna, 5, Tulley, 3, and Lester, 2.

The 1920 Census finds Cressie, 10, in Wallowa, Oregon living with her parents, Charles, 48, and Florence, 43, and 8 siblings: Alda, Carroll, 16, Sienna, 14, Tulley, 12, Lester, 11, Ava, 7, Adaven, 5, and Naoma, 3.

Cressie married Charles Edward Dahlquist in Washington in 1929. After traveling for 4 years, their first baby (Patricia Audyne) was born in 1933. In the 1940 U.S. Census Cressie, 30, is living with her husband "Ed", 32, and 2 daughters: Patricia Audyne, 6, and Cressie Joan, 5.

In 1948 Cressie and Ed had a son, Charles Edward (Eddie) Dahlquist II.

Cressie played in a band called "The Odds and Ends" as pianist and percussionist until the winter of 1999/2000. She played for her 90th birthday party in December, then contracted an illness that was going through her neighborhood. She died on 13 August, 2000 in Arroyo Grande, California.
