Oscar was born in 1857 and lived most of his life in NYC. He met Sarah Frances Tompkins of Westchester County, NY, a distant relative, at church. The two courted and then married on September 14, 1881 in NYC. While rushing to board a train around 1890, Oscar caught his leg in in accident that led to amputation. He had worked in the insurance industry in NYC up until this accident. The insurance settlement led to him being able to dedicate a considerable number of hours to the family genealogical project. which was aided by the work of Robert Tompkins. Oscar was convinced that his gg grandfather, Elijah Tompkins (b,1743-d,1786) had served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. He was unable to produce original documents providing evidence of this fact so he was not admitted to the Sons of the American Revolution. At around age 70, Oscar and Sarah Frances took a tour to the western U.S, to visit Yellowstone and Grand Canyon NPs. Oscar Brown died in 1950 at the age of 93 in NYC.
