William Brown was born in Ireland in 1865. He was a son of William Brown and Isabella MacKelvy.
With his parents, William emigrated from Ireland to Canada in 1873. They settled in Durham, Ontario.
About 1886, William moved to North Dakota. He operated a confectionery in Crystal, Pembina, North Dakota and then a confectionery and butcher shop in Hoople, Walsh, North Dakota.
In 1903, he went to the Northwest Territories (Saskatchewan) looking for land. He returned to North Dakota and then, in the spring of 1904, he filed for a homestead in the Laura, Northwest Territories area.
William returned to Durham, Ontario to marry Mary Agnes Howe on 6 March 1912 at Janetville, Manvers, Durham.[1]
They returned to the farm near Laura, Saskatchewan where their two sons, Lloyd and Gerald were born.
William and Mary retired from farming in 1941 and moved into the town of Laura. Their son, Lloyd, took over running the farm.
Mary died in 1947 and William died in July 1955. They were buried in Laura Cemetery.[2]
