GROOM—BROWN—On July 15, 1891 at Darvall, at Nonoti, by the Rev. W. W. Rider, Alfred, youngest son of Thomas Groom, Verulam, to Isabella, second daughter of David Brown, Nonoti, New Guelderland.
Isabella and Alfred owned an elegant double storey home in Verulam. They also had a big, very elegant holiday home on "Springvale" at Rosetta about a mile from Alfred's brother Christopher's house. It was in a glorious setting with large and plentiful rooms. They also owned a large beach house with large grounds at Tongaat Beach near Verulam and near Ballito Bay, where clan members occasionally spent holidays, renting the place in some instances.
Alfred and Bella had six children.
Isabella passed away in about 1942 at the age of 75.
