I don't know anything about John (Jno.) W. Brown, only that he was born somewhere around 1858 in Alabama and died around 1889. He was the son of Alexander "Alex" Brown and Elizabeth "Bettie / Betsie" Brown. He married Viola Cansady Mitchell, born Itawamba, Mississippi, to Sion Fikes Mitchell and Nancy Cansady Hall. John and Viola had one son William Wesley Brown On the census John is listed as "Mulatto" as is his father, brothers and sisters, but his mother is listed as "Black" . William W. Brown, Johns son is listed as "Caucasian"on the Draft Reg. Story is they are Native American, I have yet to prove this. I do know that my grandfather, William W. Brown would not talk about his father. And I do have pictures of his mother, shows Native American. as well as a couple other pictures I found in Viola's trunk of some women that look Native American.
