Biography

Colonel William Brown served in the United States Civil War.
Side: CSA

William B. Brown was born in Virginia about 1805. Census records of 1850 and 1860 for Lynchburg, Virginia, and the death record of his daughter Rosaline in 1923 give details about his wife and children.

Find A Grave: Memorial #155887582 for William B. Brown] notes he was a Colonel in the CSA, but does not show what unit he was with. The Findagrave for son James W. Brown shows that James was in the CSA, 2nd Cavalry, Virginia. James is buried with brother George W. Brown, which may infer George was in the CSA as well.

William B. Brown married Sarah Argenbright about 1827, and the couple had at least seven children(with est. birth years):

  1. John W.
  2. Francis(m)
  3. Caroline S. 1836
  4. George W. 1838
  5. James W. 1839
  6. Leslie(m) 1844
  7. Rosaline Virginia Brown Smith 2/9/1845 - 4/6/1923

All born in Virginia.

The 1850 census reiterates maiden name of wife Sarah, as her mother Elizabeth Argenbright is shown as living with the family(Elizabeth born about 1782, Maryland).
