Biography
Birth
Margaret was born about 1846 in Tandragee, County Armagh, Northern Ireland.[1] She was the daughter of Robert Bennett and Jane Guy.[2]
Immigration
Margaret immigrated to Christchurch on the "Blue Jacket", arriving on 13 November, 1865.[2][3] According to the passenger list for the Blue Jacket, Margaret Bennett was listed as a 'Domestic servant', aged 22.[4] An article, published by The Lyttleton Times on November 28, 1865 announced that due to an outbreak of small pox on board the Blue Jacket it was quarantined for over a fortnight.[5]
Marriage
On 11 January 1866 Margaret Bennett and Henry Bennett were married.[6]
On 21 June 1879 Margaret Bennett and William Brown were married.[7] Her last name became Brown.
Death
Margaret passed away on 26 September, 1898 in Tinwald, Canterbury, New Zealand.[8] She is buried at the Ashburton Cemetery, Area 13, Plot Number 14.[9]
