Military

Vietnam War US Marine Corps LCpl., 3RD PLT, B CO, 1ST BN, 7TH MARINES, 1ST MARDIV, III MAF He enlisted in the US Marine Corps on December 28, 1966 in Los Angeles CA. He arrived in Vietnam on July 25, 1967 assigned with Company B, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

On a platoon combat patrol along the Tuy Loan River northeast of Giao Tri village complex in Hieu Duc District a Marine detonated a M-26A1 grenade rigged as a BT (Booby Trap) with a trip wire causing an explosion A Medevac was requested for the wounded man and the men began a sweep for signs of more explosive devices, one was found and destroying it in place. Continuing the search two more AP M-26A1's were detonated by search team resulting in three Marines being killed and three being wounded.

  • LCpl Browning was presented with the Silver Star Medal posthumously "For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action ....on 24 October 1967...."
