Benjamin Bruce wrote a book, "The History of the Family of William Bruce." Wrote "The History of the Family of William Bruce." - 1896 D. C. Taft Company
Benjamin Bruce wrote the history of his family and published it in a small booklet in 1896. This great information tells us a great deal about the Bruce family. "December 1848, Benjamin was made an honorary life member of the old Volunteer Firemen's Independent Company, he having been an active member of the Independents No. 1 for a number of years, and at one time vice-president of his company. The Independents No. 1 had two hundred enrolled members, and owned their own building and apparatus. The two engines were known as the Pilots and Witches, and the hose reel as the Rovers. The organization of this Independent Fire Company was the result of the big fire of 1829, in having enrolled in its active membership the best merchants of that time."
