Note N355Not married to Sarah Yale, closest possible match by process of elimination. Father was a neighbor, a lawyer, and his last name was Bruce. Henry K.W. meets those criteria, as well as being closest in age to Sarah and not married to someone else. Date of Burton Ashley Northrup's birth in Ansel Judd Northrup's genealogy was moved up a year to 1873 to be socially appropriate in relation to her 1973 marriage to his uncle Ashley Porter Northrup (16 years older than Sarah and recently widowed). Document in Madison County archives shows a 1973 transfer of ownership of Sara's own house back in to her own name for 0 paid to Ashley Porter Northrup, transaction thus assuring the inheritance of the property to her oldest child from her first marriage, Perlee Compton. After Sarah's death--probably from tuberculosis--in 1882 during the diptheria epidemic that decimated the town and most of the members of her family, Perlee sold the house and moved to Oneida, married his uncle's widowed wife, Lottie, and became a supervisor for the railroad. Burton also had moved to Oneida by 1884 according to the city directory where he was working in a coffin factory. He was presumably still working for the same factory up through 1910, at which time he was a manager in a brass forgery, living with his first wife Mabel Hall at her sister's family home in Rome, Oneida County, NY. In the subsequent decade he became a salesman, perhaps for the coffin factory among other enterprises, and traveled a great deal, never returning permanently to his home in upstate New York. He was never able to legally marry his second wife, Olga Helen Nelson, because his first wife Mabel refused to give him a divorce. When he settled more or less permanently in Pasadena, California, Helen (as she liked to be called) took his last name anyway and they had two children together, Sara Betty and Nancy Anita.
