Elizabeth was born about 1847. She is the daughter of James Bruce and Elizabeth Bird.
Adams made their home in High Bluff, Manitoba, where they farmed until 1880 when they and many other families decided to move west to the Lindsay District, North West Territories. The Lindsay District was just south of the settlement of Prince Albert. At this time Elizabeth was expecting her eighth child, who was born after reaching their destination
Elizabeth went from house to house during times of illness and during these trips she took along her "herbs". She was known as a type of "nurse- doctor". Descendants say that "by going from house to house she was carrying the news". She is described as "opinionated". Eliza- beth could speak the Cree language.
James and Elizabeth had twelve children
In later years, James and Elizabeth lived separately. After being confined to her bed for five weeks,
Elizabeth, at age 78, died on 5 June 1926, at the home of her daughter Maria Tate.
