Biography

He was born on 08 June 1917 in Early County, Georgia, USA and was the son of Tommie (Roberts, 1888–1976) and William Cullen Bryan (1883–1955).

Hugh Thomas Bryan first married Vivian Estelle "Toochie" Kelly (1916–2000).

He died on 27 Feb 2009 and was buried at Leesburg Cemetery in Leesburg, Lee County, Georgia, USA. ^[1]

Obituary

Mr. Bryan was born in Early County June 8, 1917, to the late William Cullen and Tommie (Roberts) Bryan. He was an engineer and a fireman for the Seaboard Railroad and lived in Americus and Savannah while working for the railroad. After his railroad days, he started working for Electrolux, which he continued doing until he was in his 80s.

In 1950 Mr. Bryan moved to Arlington and owned a cotton gin and warehouse business. During that time he served a term as mayor of Arlington and later opened a meat packing company there. He sold mutual funds to fund the growth of American Family Life Insurance Company now known as AFLAC.

He and his second wife were the owners of the original Aunt Fannie's Restaurant. After selling the restaurant, he continued to work for Electrolux and was a member of Amazing Grace Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vivian (Kelly) Bryan; three brothers, Clarence Bryan of Baker County, Edsel Bryan of Covington and Joe Bryan of Damascus; two sisters, Annie Laura Ginn of Morgan and Sara (Bryan) Houston of Thomasville; and two grandchildren, Chris Bryan and Kelly Bryan Cheshire.

Survivors include his children, Dana Bryan Greene and husband Bob of Fredericksburg, VA., Sylvia ()Bryan Prussack of Richardson, Texas and Hugh Thomas "Tommy" Bryan Jr. and wife Kaye of Leesburg; a sister, Audrey (Bryan) Fulford of Albany; five grandchildren, Robert Greene of Gainesville, VA., Suzanne Fall and husband John of Virginia Beach, VA., Terri Fann and husband Bill of Lewisville, Texas, Michael Prussack of Carrolton, Texas, and Luke Bryan and wife Caroline of Brentwood, Tenn.; and 11 greatgrandchildren. He is deeply missed. ^[2]
