Biography

Napoleon Bryant settled in the Republic of Texas before February 19, 1846.
Pvt. Napoleon Bryant served in the United States Civil War.

Napoleon Lafayette Bryant was born in Georgia to Benjamin Franklin Bryant and Rebecca Parker. He moved with the family to Texas and is on the 1834 Sabine District Census of the Texas Territory. On January 28, 1851 he married Elizabeth Sparks, and they had 5 children (William, Martha, Jesse, John and Joseph).

He was a Pvt., Co D, 18th Texas Cavalry, in the Confederate Army. In January, 1862, he was in Searcy, White County, Arkansas. 284 men were carried on the company muster rolls through June 1863.

He was furloughed home to Bell County on November 27, 1862. Illness caused the furlough.The following statement is included in his file: "Private N L Bryant Co D Darnells Regiment Texas Troops having applied for a certificate on which to found an application for Furlough. “We do hereby certify that we have carefully examined said Soldier and find him suffering from repeated attacks of Febris remittens ( a fever that comes and goes, often associated with malaria ) and having a Rheumatic affection of right hip consider a change of location necessary to convalescence. And in consequence there of he is unfit for military duty. We further declare that he will not be able to resume his duties in less period than (60) sixty days (and then uncertain) which period we recommend a furlough be given to his home in Texas Bell County,Nov 27 1862 [s] J S Mills Surgeon Pres Albert Dunlap Surgeon PACS W R Walker Surgeon PACS Medical Exam Board".

Napoleon Bryant died at his home on March 4, 1863, never recovering from these ailments. He is probably buried in the Bryant Station Cemetery. He passed away in 1863 in Milam county, Texas.
