Biography

The son of Charles Buckingham and Mary (Webb) Buckingham, Roy Buckingham was born in Aurelius Township, Michigan in 1879,[1] residing there with his family.[2][3][4] He married May Belle Laxton (1881-1906), the daughter of Robert Laxton and Rose Belle Benellack, marrying in Vevay Township, Michigan on January 1, 1904[5] and having one daughter together, Mia Belle Buckingham (1905-1992).

Roy's wife died of an intestinal obstruction at the age of 24, in 1906, and Roy remarried, marrying Katherine Ingalls (1878-1908), the daughter of Franklin L. Ingalls and Mary Jane Laxton, marrying in Mason Township, Michigan on May 13, 1907[6] and having one child together, a son who lived for only one day. Kate Buckingham passed away from heart failure four months later, at the age of 38, and Roy returned to his parents' home in Aurelius Township, working a home farm.[7]

Roy Buckingham remarried in 1910, marrying Mary R. Stout (1882-1967), the daughter of John Stout and Elizabeth Jones. John and Mary married in Mason, Michigan on June 15, 1910.[8] Mary Stout had been married previously to Walter Tink Stickney, having two children with him, Leta Marie Stickney and Leland Murlind Stickney. Roy and Mary had one son together, Charles Henry Buckingham (1916-2007).

Roy Buckingham registered for the World War I draft when he was 39, registering in Eaton Rapids, Michigan on September 12, 1918.[9] He stated that he lived on R.F.D. #5 in Eaton Rapids, Michigan and that he was self-employed in farming. Roy was described as a man of medium height and build with brown hair and eyes. He did not enlist.

By 1920, Roy and his family lived in Aurelius Township, Michigan, where he farmed on his own account.[10][11][12] Roy Buckingham also registered for the World War II draft, registering in the "old man's draft" at the age of 62. He registered in Mason, Michigan on October 27, 1942.[13] Roy stated that he lived at 1644 Gale Road in Aurelius Township, Michigan and that he worked for himself. He was described as 5'8" tall and 150 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. He did not enlist, and he retired from farming by 1950.[14]

Roy Buckingham passed away in Eaton Rapids, Michigan[citation needed] at the age of 75 and is buried at Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids, Michigan.[15]
