Biography

Edward Ross Scott attended schools in Arkansas and Louisiana. He was in Hot Springs, Arkansas when he joined the Marine Corps at the beginning of World War II. His service of more than three years was in the South Pacific; and he received The Purple Heart for injuries sustained in battle. Edward married Betty Buckner while stationed in California. They moved to Florida after he was discharged. Edward a self-trained artist until he attended a school of Art in California after the war ended. He also learned the painting trade, using both skills for a livelihood. Edward and Betty B. Scott are the parents of a daughter: Daphne Scott.

This couple were divorced and 'the child lived-with her mother. In time Edward lost track of them and there has been no account of Daphne in many years. Edward developed cancer of the throat, complicated by arthritis. He had extensive surgery and lived in San Diego, California area, to be the Veterans Hospital he desired, Edward wrote and published a book, “San Diego County Soldier-Pioneers of 1846-1866”, for County San Diego Bi-centennial Project. He was to be honored December at a Historical Society Institute for the Book. Edward Scott was deceased on November 9, 1976 and interred at Eldorado, Arkansas cemetery. The Honor was posthumously awarded to his mother.
