Oliver Heil Buell and Matilda A. Post... After Oliver and Matilda were married on March 16 , 1834 , they waited until spring to move by a covered wagon pulled by a Oxen from New York state to Ottawa, Illinois. Earlier a French business Man had built the 4 story stone house on the Illinois River as a Spa for the Wealthy to come and enjoy their stay. The fourth floor was a dance hall. Lovely French chairs were bought over and all the relatives them now. Oliver Heil and his Wife Matilda ( "Mattie") Later bought the house for their home. Oliver rode a white horse into Ottawa each Sunday morning to go to the Presbyterian Church and got it ready for services. He had owned a restaurant in Ottawa and sold it to buy the stone house and take up farming...
