Biography

Jerry/Jeremiah was born in 1893. He was the son of John Burchfield and Rhoda Shiflet ^{[1] [2]}. He died in 1964 ^[3].

Research notes

His preferred name was Jerry. This is confirmed by records starting after 1910, his grave marker ^[4], his delayed birth certificate (1950s) ^[5] and accounts by relatives. In 1900 and 1910, however, the census records have him as Jeremiah. No primary record of his birth has been found, as a delayed birth certificate is not a primary source. It's possible that his birth name was Jeremiah, as is found in the earliest currently-found records - the 1900 and 1910 census - but that later, he preferred the name Jerry.
