The body of Stephen D. Burdge, the oldest resident of this county, was laid to rest Monday afternoon in the family plot in Manzanita Cemetery, near Lincoln. He was born in 1811 and since 1850 had been a citizen of this county. No one in this section was better known.
He leaves two children living. One is Mrs. C. C. Sanders, of Lincoln, and the other is Mrs. John Gerber, of Alameda. Mr. Burdge was the grandfather of Frank L. Sanders, who with Price Sartain, has been conducting the Burdge Hotel at Lincoln. The building recently burned down. It was originally built by Mr. Burdge. Mr. T. J. Nichols, of Auburn, still has a bottle of wine given him by Mr Burdge over twenty years ago. The grapes were grown by Mr. Burdge and the wine made at his ranch.
