Biography

Genevieve was born in 1892 in DeRuyter, NY. She was the daughter of two Seventh Day Baptist preachers, Rev. Leon D. Burdick and Rev. Perie Fitz Randolph. During her childhood, the family moved around a bit as her father pursued his studies in Alfred, NY and the couple served different SDB communities in New York, New Jersey, Florida and Minnesota. Her mother died when Genevieve was 13 years old. Her father remarried and started a new family six years later. She continued her studies, getting a degree at Alfred University in Alfred, NY, and then started teaching in public schools. In 1921 at the age of 28, she married Arthur Leland Penny, a World War I veteran, car salesman and mechanic. They stayed in Westhampton on Long Island, NY where he was from. They never had children. Her husband died in 1985, and Genevieve passed away the following year in 1986 at the age of 93. They are buried together in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY.
