Obituary

John Burgan, son of Isom and Millie Burgan, was born in Boone County, Indiana, May 1, 1836. Died in Greenfield, Indiana, March 21, 1912, age 75 years, 10 months and 21 days.

He was one of eight children - five girls and three boys - all now deceased, except one of the sisters, Mrs. Mary Beaman, who resides in Greenfield, Indiana.

On January 21, 1858, he was married to Harriett M. Reynolds, who departed this life September 23, 1876. To this union was born four children, two boys and two girls. They are Isom Burgan, of Martinsville, Ind.; Mrs. Emma Scott, of Hendricks County, Indiana, Marion E. Burgan, of Lebanon, Indiana, and Flora Burgan of Greencastle, Indiana.

His second marriage was to Martha A. May, July 19, 1880. The fruits of this marriage was three children, namely, Mrs. Della Clark, of Greenfield, Ind.; Albert Burgan, of Terre Haute, Ind., and Arthur Burgan, of near Centerville, Ind.

The deceased enlisted in the War of the Rebellion at Lafayette, Ind., on July 1, 1863, in Co. G, 116th Indiana Infantry, and served six months, or the time for which he enlisted.

For some five years preceding his death, he had been a great sufferer, and a great deal of the time was confined to his room. He, with a part of his family, moved to Greenfield some sixteen months ago, where he resided up to the time of his death.

He united with the M. E. church when in his boyhood days, and was converted. Up to the time of his death, he was still in the faith, and told his wife a short time before his death that he was ready to go.

Besides his companion, he leaves an only sister, seven children, thirty-two grand children, and seven great-grandchildren.
