BIRTH/ BAPTISM (GEBURT/ TAUFE): (2nd May 1820) bzw. GEBURT/ TAUFE: "(...) früh 2 Uhr wurde in der Behausung No: 412. geboren, und Nachmittags 3 Uhr von dem Hochw. He. Münsterkap. Anselm Schmidle getauft: Maria Anna Burger, eheliche Tochter des Martin Burger, hies. Schneidermeisters und der M. Anna Hercher, von Geroldsthal."[1]
Translation: Maria Anna Burger was born and baptized the 2nd May 1820 in the main church of Freiburg, the famous Münster. She was born in the morning at 2 o'clock, and baptized in the afternoon at 3 o'clock. Her parents were Martin Burger, master tailor of Freiburg, and Maria Anna Hercher, deriving from Geroldsthal.
Discussion: She was a tailor/ tailoress like both her father and her grandfather from her mother's side had been. I think her occupation is a strong hint for my opinion that she really is "Maria Anna Burger", born the 2nd May 1820 in Freiburg im Breisgau.
Note added by S.J. Ullrich: She also married a tailor so perhaps this is how she met her husband. This connection is possible but needs further verified with a more definitive source such as marriage document or DNA verification. Review of marriage records (Heiratseinträge) of Freiburg im Breisgau between 1830 and 1855 did not show any Burger-Ullrich marriages during this period nor any birth entries (Geburtseinträge).[2] .
Note: Anna was recorded as being born in "Frieburg" on the 1880 Federal Census of the United States.[4] This most likely is Freiburg in Württemberg. On the 1870 Census her birth is recorded as Baden[5], so the town of Freiburg im Breisgau in Baden-Württemberg, Germany makes sense. Note the census taker originally wrote Germany but later corrected all his entries to specific regions in Germany. [6][7]
