Jonathan Burnyeat was born in 1686 in Dublin, son of the Quaker minister John Burnyeat. Jonathan became an orphan in his infancy, his mother dying in 1688 and his father in 1690, and he was committed to the care of his relations in Cumberland. He became a minister at the age of twelve, preaching in England, Scotland and Ireland. He died in Cumberland in 1709 at the age of 23.
