Archibald was born on 1 October 1840[1]. He was the son of John Burton and Agnes Cameron. He appears in the Scotland census of 1841[2] living with his mother and two siblings at Dale Street in the Gorbals, a district of Glasgow. He was almost certainly born there.
Archibald died in Cambuslang on 31 January 1843, aged only 2.[3]
