Biography

Mary Burton was born on March 5, 1776, in Winslow, Maine, her father, Nathan (Button) Burton and her mother, Hannah (Unknown) Burton. She married John Sheldon Gray III on March 12, 1793, in Hancock, Maine. They had 11 children in 20 years. She died in October 1854 in Galena, Illinois, having lived a long life of 78 years. Mary was buried after October 1854 in river bank of Mississippi.
