Biography

Cross of St George
Edward Burton was born in England.
Edward Burton came free to the Colony of Queensland (1859-1900)

Edward Burton was born about 1854 in England, United Kingdom.

Edward married Sarah Ann Brand (1858 - 1936) on 23 Nov 1881 in Attercliffe, South Yorkshire, England.[1][2][3]

Their daughter was Eliza (Burton) Moule (1882 - 1958).

Edward and Sarah immigrated to Australia aboard the "Almora", disembarking in Mackay, Queensland on 15 Mar 1882.[4]

On the 6 May 1882, Edward was working on the property of Andrew Henderson Robb near Walkerston to help clear land and split timber. He didn't have a proper fuse on hand so he made one using calico steeped in a gunpowder solution, and tamped a charge in a large log in the usual way. The explosion knocked Edward off his feet leaving his skull shattered. Death was instantaneous.[5][6][7][8]
