Biography

Arthur William Busch was born in 1898 at Talunga, South Australia, the son of Charles Busch and Johanna Werner. [1]

In 1921 he married Caroline Gueneveure MUNN . [2]

"BUSCH—MUNN. ... On Wednesday evening, January 19, at the Hynam Mission Hall a very interesting wedding was celebrated, when Miss Guenevere Munn daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Munn, of Hynam, was married to Mr. Arthur W. Busch, eldest son of Mr. F. W. Busch, of the same town. The Mission Hall was very prettily decorated for the occasion with evergreens, flowers, etc., and triple arches were arranged over the aisle, and the ball was well filled with interested spectators. _ The Rev. W. M. Corden was the officiating minister, and Messrs. V. Busch and C. Munn acted as bestman and groomsman respectively. The bridesmaids were Miss Marion Munn and Miss Edna Busch, while Masters Max and Lawrie Busch acted as pages to support the long Court train. A very pretty scene was presented as the bride entered the church with her father and party. The costume was white silk Georgette, trimmed with side flounces, and embroidered with pale pink roses and edgings. The long court train was of Georgette lined, and edged with shadow lace, and trimmed with tulle, bows and silver horse shoes. The embroidered tulle veil was kept in place with a coronet of orange blossom, and the bouquet consisted of agapanthus, roses and carnations with a shower of tiny silver horseshoes. The little pages supporting the train were dressed in white, and Miss Marion Munn wore maise silk crepe de chene, with flounces of ninon frilling around the neck, and carried a bouquet of gaillardias and fern, with long streamers of maize ribbon. Miss Edna Bosch had cream silk georgette with panels and tucks, and the neck edged with pale blue French knots, and her bouquet was also of gailardias and fern, with the maize colored streamers., Both bridesmaids had picture hats to correspond. Mrs. Ward officiated at the organ. After the ceremony the parents of the bride entertained about 70 guests in the local hall, and during the course of the festivities the usual toasts and good wishes were given and acknowledged. The happy couple left per the midnight train en route to Victor Harbor after undergoing the usual ordeal with the showers of confetti. The bride's travelling dress was a jumper frock trimmed with grey crepe de chene, and she also wore a black picture hat. Many handsome and useful presents were received, including a number of cheques."[3]

He served in the 10th Battalion, Australian Army during WW2.[7]

"The 10th Battalion was an infantry battalion of the Australian Army. ... During World War II the 10th was (a militia unit) mobilised for full-time service. Following Japan's entry into the war, the battalion was assigned to defend the New South Wales southern coast before being reassigned to the defence of Darwin and being amalgamated with the 48th Battalion in August 1942... In 1943, the 10th/48th Australian Infantry Battalion was gazetted as an "AIF" unit; as more than three-quarters of the unit volunteered for overseas service, this status meant that the battalion could be deployed outside Australian territory. Nevertheless, it remained in the Northern Territory, undertaking garrison duties in Darwin and its surrounding areas. As the threat to the port diminished, the garrison was reduced to a single brigade in July 1944, at which time the 10th/48th was reassigned to the 12th Brigade. The battalion remained in Darwin until June 1945 when it was moved to Brisbane, Queensland. It was disbanded on 8 August 1945, having never served outside Australia during the war. During the war, another battalion with a similar designation, the 2/10th Battalion, was raised as part of the all-volunteer Second Australian Imperial Force (2nd AIF).[70] The units of the 2nd AIF were considered separate from those of the Militia"[8]

Arthur passed away in 1983 and is buried with wife, Millicent Eleanor (Judy) Busch in the Corrigin Cemetery, Western Australia.[9] Aged 85 years.
