Biography

Edward was born in 1924. He passed away in 2002.

He died November 4, 2002 at Riverton Memorial Hospital. Born April 20, 1924 in Livingston, Montana, he was the son of E.J. and Ruth (Noble) Bush; and was an accomplished athlete throughout high school. He accepted a football scholarship to the University of Minnesota, where he was captain of the freshman team; and played for Northwestern and Penn State. While at the University of Minnesota, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942; attended officer’s training in Quantico, Virginia; and was sent to Amphibious Tractor School at Camp Pendleton, CA. After the war ended, he moved to Thermopolis and took over the job of junior high coach for a year. He then returned to the University of Minnesota to complete his schooling and graduated in 1947. In 1948, he earned a Masters degree from the University of Wyoming and, throughout the years, had enough credits for a doctorate but never completed it. He became a coach and teacher in Lander and went on to coach basketball, track and, the love of his life, football. His proudest coaching moment was winning the state high school football championship in the fall of 1948. In 1948, he married Jean Brooks. She preceded him in death in 1961. In 1962, he married Viole LaJenesse. She died in January 2002. Principal at Starrett Junior High School from 1965 through 1980, he transferred to West Elementary School when it opened in 1980. He retired in 1984. Until his death, he was active in many aspects of the Lander community. Survivors include five children, Becky Clark of Casper, Clifford “Herky” Clark and his wife of Riverton, Barbara Stoner of Oregon, Brad Bush and his wife of Brawley, CA, and Betsy Ferraro and her husband of New Braunsfel, TX, seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents and abrother, Robert “Bob” Bush.
