Charles Hermann Busse,[1] son of William J. and Catherine (Wilkins) Busse, was born in Germany in June 1869,[2] migrated to the United States in 1883 1889, and became a naturalized citizen in 1894.[3]
There are several men named Charles Busse, age 23, located in the 1892 New York Census, Kings County. All say he was born in the United States, so cannot be positively identified.[4]
Charles Busse, age 26, son of "Wm. and Katharine W" married Ida Josephine Bennett, age 25, daughter of "Isaac L and Mary Marget" [ie Marcet] 13 January 1896 in Kings, New York, United States[5]
In 1900, living on Bergen St., in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, were Charles H Busse, b. June 1869, in Germany to parents born in Germany, age 30, married 5 years, immigrated 1883 [later censuses say 1889], had been here 17 years, was a naturalized citizen, a painter, and rented his home; Ida, his wife, born in New York, to parents born in New York, May 1869, age 31, she had 2 children, both living; Lillian, daughter, born Jan 1897, age 2; Charles, son Oct 1899, age 7 months.[2]
The family moved to Willington, Tolland, Connecticut by 1910. There were manufacturing jobs and farmland available. Bussie: Charles H, head, 41, married 1 time for 14 yrs, he and his parents were b. Germany, immigrated 1889, worked as a cutter in a button mill, and also owned a mortgaged farm; Ida J, age 41, was born in New York to parnets born in New York, married 1 time for 14 yrs, she had 6 children all living; Lillian dtr 13; Charles R son 10; Francis son 8; Mary J dtr 6; William H son 4; Madeline dtr 5/12. The children were all born in New York, except Madeline, born in Connecticut. [6] Birth place data remains consistent in subsequent censuses.
By 1920 in Willington, Charles Busse, age 50, immigrated 1889 and naturalized 1894, listed himself as a farmer. Also living in the household were: Mrs. Ida Busse, wife, age 50; Charles ? Busse, son 20, button maker in a button shop; Frank Busse, son, 18, also a button maker in a button shop ; Mary Busse, daughter, 16, button maker in a button shop; William Busse, son, 14, button maker in a button shop; Madaline Busse, daughter, 10; Francis Bennett, boarder, 41, married, born New York; Mrs. Mary Bennett, mother in law, 80, widowed, born in New York to a father born in NY, father born in Cuba, mother born in NY; Rene Bennett, boarder, 14, single, born in NY; Joseph, boarder, 8, born New York; Ruth, boarder, 6, b. New York.[3] The Bennetts's were Ida's mother, brother and niece and nephews.
As time continued, in 1930, Charles H "Bussy", age 60, married at age 26, raised chickens in Willington. His wife Ida J Bussy, age 60, also married at the age of 26, kept his house. Their son William H Bussy, age 24, single, truck driver and a granddaughter, Bertha M Bussy, age 6. lived with them.[7]
The 1940 census enumerated Charles H Busse, age 70, with and 8th grade education, working as a farmer on his own farm; Ida J Busse, age 70, 8th grade education, his wife; their son Charles R, 41, widowed, 8th grade education, a cutter in a button mill, Charles R Busse Jr., 8, in the 2nd grade (Charles H's grandson); and grandaughter Bertha, 16, in the 12th grade. [8]
Charles H. Busse, age 76, spouse of Ida J. Busse, died 24 Jan 1946, in Brooklyn, New York. He was a resident of West Willington, Connecticut, and was buried in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, on 28 Jan 1946. He had been born in Germany 8 June 1869, son of William J. and Catherine (Wilkins) Busse, both born in Germany.[9]
Charles is buried at the Willington Hill Cemetery, in Willington, not in Stafford Springs.[10]
No obituary was found at Newspapers.com or GenealogyBank, in New York, or Connecticut.
