Martha Bussey was born on 7 Dec 1822 in Putnam, Georgia, United States, daughter of Charles Bussey (1802–1867) and Almeda Leverett (1806–1876). [1]

Martha (21) married Joseph Post Graggs (21) (born on 18 Nov 1822 in Morgan County, Georgia; son of William P. Graggs and Malinda Augusta (Carlisle) Graggs) on 18 Feb 1844 in Tallapoosa, Alabama, United States. [2] [3] Their children were:

In 1850, Martha (27) was living with her husband, Joseph, in Carroll, Carroll, Mississippi. [4]

In 1860, Martha (37) was in the household of J P Griggs. [5]

In 1870, Martha (47) [6]

In 1900, Martha (77) was in the household of Wyley T McCrary. [7]

Martha died on 26 Jan 1910 in Waco, McLennan, Texas, United States, aged 87. She was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Waco, McLennan County, Texas. [2] [3] [1]

Mrs. M. B. Griggs Dead

Another Early Settler and Good Woman of Waco Passed Away.

Mrs. Martha Bussey Griggs died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. T. McCrary. She was born in Georgia on December 10, 1822, and was married in her youth to Joseph P. Griggs, coming to Texas with him fifty-five years ago. Her husband died in 1865. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. McCrary of Waco, Mrs. G. A. Stapley of Waxahachie and Mrs. W. T. Murphy of Mexia, also a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The funeral will be from the First Baptist Church, of which she was a member, and will take place at 10 o'clock tomorrow. Interment at Oakwood cemetery. Services conducted by Rev. Jeff O. Ray and Rev. J. W. Foster of Clay street church. Following are the pallbearers: Active: Frank Wells, Will Miller, Lee Busch, Sam Stewart, Warwick Jenkins, Richard Burleson). Honorary: S. B. Humphreys, Judge John C. West, M. H. Standefer, William H. Gaston of Dallas, Judge Prendergast of Mexia, Dr. W. F. West of Waxahachie.
