Biography

Henry was born in Hertfordshire on 4 November 1855. He is the son of Henry Butcher and Martha (maiden name yet to be researched).

In 1871 at age 15, Henry was residing in the Samuel Cartwright household in St James Westminster London; at the time, he was employed as a 'page'. Henry appears to have worked at a variety of jobs (as seen in census records) including proprietor of a boarding establishment, valet and despatch clerk.

On 30 July 1913 in South Warnborough Hampshire, Henry married for the second time when he wed Jane Poulter, a 39 year old spinster who was about 18 years his junior. George and Jane became the parents of 2 sons - Reginald who was born in 1914 and Eric who was born the following year.

At the time of the 1939 England Register, Henry and Jane were living with their 2 sons at 204 Mansel Road, Birmingham Warwickshire.

Henry passed away sometime between 1939 and 1952 (we are unable to locate any verifiable death or burial record). Wife Jane died in October 1952 and her probate record indicates that she was a widow at the time of her death.

Henry was married twice during his lifetime. We believe that his first marriage was to Catherine Money in Kensington London in 1880. We see no evidence that children came from that marriage, although we have not done in depth research about this phase of Henry's life. We believe that Henry was widowed sometime after 1901. Since we have prepared this profile largely from the perspective of Henry's time spent married to our relative Jane Poulter, it is not our intention to create Wiki profiles for first wife Catherine or for any children who may have come from that marriage.
