Richmond Esley Butler was born about 1824 in Elbert, Georgia, United States, son of James McGehee Butler (1758–1841) and Sarah Christopher (1763–1802).
Richmond died about June 3, 1863 in Lynchburg, Virginia, United States, aged about 38.[1][2] He was buried in Old City Cemetery, Lynchburg, Virginia.
