LOWELL — Arnold A. Byam, Sr., prominent local Insurance and real estate broker, and a widely known resident of the city for more than 45 years, died last night at his home on Second lane, after a long illness. He was 67. Identified from his early career with a variety of fraternal, civic and business activities, Mr. Byam served as a member of the board of aldermen during the years 1910 and 1911. He was also a charter member of the Lowell Lions club and was a high personage in Masonic circles. Mr. Byam became widely known in the insurance and rea estate fields, having established with his brother, the late George A. Byan, the firm of Byam Brothers, insurance and real estate company, in 1906. Although ill health forced him to limit his activities with the firm during recent months, the firm was still under his direction. He had made, his home in Chelmsford during the past two years. Mr. Byam was a. high-Mason, having taken the 32 degree. His Masonic affiliations were many, and included membership in Pentucket lodge, AF&AM; Ahasuerus council, Mt. Horeb Royal Arch chapter; Pilgrim commandery, Knights Templar, 9; Lowell lodge of Perfection, Lowell council, Princes of Jerusalem; Mt. Calvary chapter, Rose Croix, and Massachusetts consistory, SPRS, 32nd degree, and Aleppo temple of Boston. Survivors include his wife, Amelia B. (Marinel) Byam; two daughters, Mrs. William B. Foster of Squantum, and Mrs. James B. Judge of Concord; five sons Arnold A. Byam, Jr., of Lowell; Paul W. Byam of South Chelmsford, George A. Byam ot North Tewksbury, well known professional ballplayer; Robert S. Byam and David A. Byam, both of South Chelmsforcl; one sister of Lawrrence; one brother, Ray S. Byam of Rye, N. H.; seven grandehlldren, and several nieces.[1]
