Biography

The Mudgee Guardian and North-West Representative (NSW) Fri 27 Sep 1929, Page 25 COOK— BYFIELD. A very pretty bride, attired in white mariette beaded with crystals and having an uneven hem was Miss Hazel Enid Byfield, daughter of Mr and Mrs H. S. Byfield, of Gulgong, at her marriage to Mr Cornelius Joseph Cook, son of Mr and Mrs J. Cook, of Lismore, which was celebrated at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Gulgong, on Saturday afternoon last. The Rev. A. J. C. Tebbit officiated, and the church, which was prettily decorated with flowers, was packed. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore the customary wreath and veil held in place by a coronet of orange blossoms. White stocks, irises and carnations, composed the bridal bouquet. Mrs A. B. Unwin (sister of the bride) acted as matron of honour, and chose Grecian rose crepe-de-chine. She carried a sheaf of carnations, stocks and sweet peas. Mr W. G. Treloar acted as best man. Miss Fyfe presided at the Organ, and during the signing of the register Mrs J. H. Stahl sang a solo. The reception was held at the Oddfellows' Hall, the interior of which was brightly and prettily decorated with pink and white streamers. The scheme, which was most effective, was carried out by Mrs H. O. Moras, assisted by her daughter, Miss L. Moras, and Mesdames T. J. Wade (Sydney) and T. Amies. Over the heads of the bridal couple a huge white bell was suspended. Pink and white stocks and carnations were used to decorate the tables, around which a large number of guests sat. The guest's were received by the bride's mother, who wore a dainty frock of lace over mastic crepe-de- chine. She carried an Early Victorian bouquet of daffodils, wallflowers and boronia. Mr A. E. Souter presided and proposed the bride and bridegroom, paying them both a well deserved tribute to their sterling qualities. He had known the bride all her lifetime. The more he saw of the bridegroom, whom he had known for a couple of years, the more he grew in his estimation. As a policeman the bridegroom always put duty before anything else. Mr Cook responded and proposed the Matron of Honour, to which the best man responded. The parents of the bride and bridegroom was proposed by Mr J. Clark and responded to by the bride's father. Mr P. Upham, in proposing the ladies, said they were always willing to shoulder their responsibilities and but for them those present would not have been able to appreciate everything associated with the event of that day. The toast of the Press, proposed by Mr J. Clark, was responded to by Mrs T. Amies, on behalf of Mr Amies. The chairman was proposed by Mr Clark, and Mr Souter responded. The minister, the Rev. A. J. C. Tebbit, arrived at a late stage and offered some "advice" to the happy couple. The handsome two-decker wedding cake was made by the bride's mother, and was beautifully decorated by Mr W. J. Blow, baker, of Gulgong. The bridegroom's present to the bride was a cut glass bedroom table set, to the matron of honour a knife-edged diamond brooch. The bride's present to the bridegroom was a leather travelling case. When the bride and bridegroom left for their honeymoon, which is being spent in Sydney and Lismore, the bride wore a powder blue coat and skirt of crepe-de-chine, with hat to tone. They were cheered by a large number of friends as the train departed.
