Biography

James was christened on 06 October 1861 in Digswell, Hertfordshire, England. He was the son of James Bygrave and Mary Miles. [1]

At the 1871 census the family was living in Digswell. [2]

In 1881 he was employed in Swindon, Wiltshire, as a boot finisher. [3]

He married his wife Edith Helena Cox on 21 March 1886 in Maidstone, Kent. [4]

The 1891 census shows James and Edith living on Wheeler Street, Maidstone, Kent. [5] Not counting two visitors, the family members present were:

- head James L Bygrave, age 29, boot maker, born in Hertfordshire
- wife Edith H Bygrave, age 28, born in Staffordshire
- son James P L Bygrave, age 1, born in Kent

They were based in Week Street, Maidstone, at the time of the 1901 census. [6]

- head James L Bygrave, age 39, boot manufacturer, born in Walwyn, Hertfordshire
- wife Edith Bygrave, age 38, born in Storton, Staffordshire
- son Percy Bygrave, age 11, born in Maidstone
- daughter Violet Bygrave, age 8, born in Maidstone

They also had a boarder and a servant.

James migrated to Queensland, Australia in 1910. [7]

He passed away in Queensland on 28 December 1948. at the age of 88. The entry states that his wife's name was Mildred. [8]
