Biography

Cecile (Cabana) Hawkins (85) of Fort Myers, FL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 after a lengthy struggle with dementia.

Cecile was the beloved wife of Edwin Hawkins of Fort Myers, FL for 63 years. She was the proud mother of five children: Debra Dyke and her husband, Steve of Townsend, MA; David Hawkins and his wife, Jane of Auburn, WA; Judith Quatrale and her husband, Peter of Brentwood, NH; Susan Quatrale and her husband, Alan of Boylston, MA; and Richard Hawkins, who predeceased her in 1996. "Grammy," as she was affectionately known, leaves six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Kelly Dyke, Kristen Campbell (Scott), Michelle Dyke, Lauren Murray (Anthony), Andrew Quatrale (Tara), Sara Quatrale, Ava Murray, and Nora Quatrale. Cecile also leaves a sister, Irene Callahan and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Marie (Nicolas) Cabana and six siblings, Yvonne Welsh, Wilfred, Lucille, William, Florence, and Jeanette Cabana.

Cecile was born in Fitchburg, MA and raised her family there until moving to Fort Myers, FL. Cecile worked as a cabinet maker and was proud of her craftmanship. She had a love of travel, music, socializing and helping others. Her life was filled with many camping trips, cruises and tours with family and friends. She especially loved musical theater and attended many shows.

A social butterfly by nature, Cecile kept in touch with family and friends, near and far, with beautiful handwritten notes. While in Florida, she made many new friends who became more like family.

Cecile's most endearing qualities were her compassion and generosity. She always put herself last, choosing instead to help anyone in need. For a small woman, she was a true "Powerhouse" that got things done.

She was our "Earth Angel," and will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Tamara and Alisha who provided compassionate and loving daily care to Cecile, as well as nurse Bethany and other team members from Hope Hospice. Without their support it would have been difficult to keep Cecile at home through her illness.

Arrangements are under the direction of Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation Society, 4320 Colonial Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33966. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope Hospice of Fort Myers, FL or World Vision of Federal Way, WA.
