John was born about 1823. John Cabell ... He passed away about 1897. [1]

The Findagrave page for John Roy Cabell, M.D. gives his lifespan, and notes father General Benjamin W.S. Cabell(a veteran of the War of 1812). Also stated is that Dr. Cabell was murdered by a tenant on his farm in Callands, Danville, in 1897.

The FamilySearch profile for Dr. Cabell shows first wife as Martha Cunningham Wilson (1823-1859), and marriage as 19 June 1847.

FamilySearch database shows Dr. Cabell in 1850 census of Pittsylvania, Virginia, in his father's home. Wife Martha in the home as well as their first child, Ann E. Cabell.

The 1850 record listed occupation as Physician, as did the 1860 census for northern Pittsylvania, which showed widowed Dr. Cabell with these children of Martha's:

  1. Ann E. Cabell 1849
  2. William C. " 1851
  3. Mary W. " 1853
  4. Nathaniel W 1855
  5. John R. 1859

Dr. Cabell would join the CSA in the Civil War in 1861, rank of Captain, with the 38th Virginia Infantry, Company B. He was the man who organized Company B, and served as commander until forced to resign due to health reasons and necessity of caring for his children after his wife's death.

1870 record not discovered, but in 1880 in Callands, Pittsylvania, Dr. Cabell is shown with his second wife, Catherine F. Witcher, and two children from marriage to first wife Martha: John R. (est 1860) and Martha (likely Mary; est 1855).

Catherine passed away on February 10, 1887 in Pittsylvania.

At University o Virginia 1848-1850, graduated M.D.
