PARTIES KNOWN AT ORARI. A divorce case of considerbhle interest in theatrical circles came before Mr .Justice Williams at Dunedin. on Thursday, when Mabel Sarah Cadell applied for a dissolution in her marriage with Clement Lionel Cadell. on the ground of misconduct with Stella Gastelle, opera artist. Mr [{anion, for the petitioner, stated that the parties wore married at Brisbane on the 8th of August, 1901, and after their marriage they lived there and at Sydney. Then they decided to come to New Zealand, where the husband intended to take up sheepfarming. They came to 'Wellington, where the only child was born, and after staying there for eight months the husband took up a farm at Orari, and his wife and child lived with him there. They were there for two and a half years, when the husband went to Christchurch, saying that he was going to sell a motor-car. He wrote one or two letters from there, and then the correspondence ceased, and the wife next heard that he had become infatuated with a woman in an opera company, and was following her up and down the Dominion. She left the farm and went to Dunedin to reside. When the husband found that she had left the farm, which she had worked for some time after he left, he went to Dunedin to see her. but only for the purpose of asking her for money. She refused to give him any, and shortly afterwards found that he had been guilty of improprieties with another woman, also a member of an opera company. He had squandered all his money, and when served with the petition admitted that he had been having a good time, and said that Mrs Cadell could get her divorce. He wrote to her saying that he was in love with another woman. He admitted all she (the wife) said against him, and begged her to keep a certain woman's name out of it, if possible. The petitioner's evidence bore out her counsel's statement. .His Honour granted a decree nisi, to take effect in three months, and .gave Mrs Cadell the custody of the Costs were given against the resident on the lowest scale, with disbursements.[2]
He passed away in 1914 age 35 [3]
