Caldwell, Cunningham (1854–1941)
Mr. Cunningham Caldwell a well known resident of the district, died at his home in The Avenue, Corrimal on Saturday aged 87 years. He was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham Caldwell, who were among the early pioneers of this district. His father who came to Australia in 1841, settled at Balgownie, and married Miss Sarah Maxwell, of Mt. Keira and, of their family of nine, four still survive; Jane (Mrs. Donnan, Balgownie), Francis (Wollongong), Isabel (Mrs. Scott, Balgownie) and Rebecca (Mrs Weeks, Balgownie). The late Mr. Caldwell took up residence at Corrimal after his marriage to Miss Alice Harrigan. He had been employed at Corrimal Colliery, had been droving and had also been in business with his brother at Balgownie for several years. Of late years his health had not been good but he was always cheery and welcomed the opportunity of talking of the early days of this district. The remains were interred in the Presbyterian cemetery at Wollongong, on Sunday.
