Miss Ellen Callan <

At Canowindra recently, after a brief Illness, Miss Ellen Callan. who was a member of one of the pioneering families of the district, passed away. The esteem In which she was held was manifest by the congregation at the Requiem Mass and the long cortège which followed her remains to their last resting place.

The older generation knew her particularly well as for years she ministered to the suffering and sick in her hospital which served the district efficiently. prior to the erection of the public hospital at Canowindra. Poor and rich alike experienced her skill and kindness, of which both doctors and patients were loud in their praise. She was trained at St. Vincent's Hospital. Sydney, and in later years lived in retirement and enjoyed a well earned rest among her many friends.

Two brothers. Messrs Thomas and James live at Canowindra, and five sisters. Mrs. P. O'Neil. "Highfield." Woodstock; Mrs. J. Lynch. Canowindra; Mrs. J. D. Robinson. Kensington: Mrs. J. Cutcliffe, "Bandon," Forbes, and Mrs. D. E. Finn, Canowindra. survive her.^[1]
