Biography

Sir George Calveley, knight^[1]

George was the eldest son and heir of Sir Hugh Calveley of Lea, knighted at Leith 1544, and his wife, Eleanor daughter of Thomas Tattenhall and sister and heir of Ralph Tatternhall of Bulkeley.

He was the brother of:

1. Eleanor, wife of John Dutton Esq of Dutton.
2. Hugh, the youngest son and eventual heir to his brother.

George married twice:

1. Margaret, daughter of John Moreton of Moreton; their marriage was childless; and
2. Agnes, daughter and heir of Anthony Browne of Wodhull and relict of Richard Chetwode Esq, and they had children:
   1. George, died in his infancy; and
   2. Hugh, also died in his infancy.

He died 5 August, 1585. Sir George Calveley, kt, was buried at Bunbury St Boniface, Cheshire, on 12 August, 1585.^[1]

The Inquisition Taken at Tuddington in the countie of Bedforde the 19 day of Maie an o Regni d ne Elizabeth Reginse etc is after the death of Agnes late the wife of Sr George Calverley Knight daughter and heire of Anthonie Wodhull of Warkworth in the countie of Northampton deceased saieth that the said Agnes died at Hocklive in y countie above said y 20 daie of Mar last past wthout issue of the bodies of y said George Calverley and y said Agnes begotten and further ye Richard Chetwod is son and heire of the said Agnes and is of the age of xvj 1 years and moore.
