Biography

Linda Ellen 'Nell' Purdon Cameron was born in 1904 in New Zealand. She was the daughter of Queensland-born parents Dugald Cameron and Emmeline Bowman. [1]

Nell married decorated Great War veteran Harry Murray on 20th November 1927 in the Registrar's Office, Auckland, New Zealand. Harry had been divorced by Nell's aunt just nine days earlier. [2] The couple moved to Queensland and in April 1928 purchased a grazing property, at Richmond, in North Queensland. Nell and Harry subsequently had two children:

  1. Douglas (1930-), named after Lieutenant Colonel Douglas Grey Marks, Harry's commanding officer in the 13th Battalion from 1917 to 1918.
  2. Clementine (1934-)

Nell and Harry were involved in a car accident in 1966 in Miles, in south west Queensland, with Harry suffering a heart attack in hospital and passing away a day later.

I suspect the plaque sharing Henry's memorial belongs to his 2nd wife. She must have remarried.
