Biography

Doris Kathryn Campbell was born on 30 November 1903 to John Campbell and Clara (Meares) Campbell in the town of Largo, Florida, in the part of Hillsboro (Hillsborough) County that became Pinellas County in 1912. [1] [2] [3]

Doris and Harvey Bruce Turner were married on 12 July 1925 by Rev Ernest Crowson at the Seminole M. E. Church in Seminole, Pinellas County, Florida.[4][1] Soon after, the couple moved to Seminole County, Oklahoma, where Bruce worked in the oil fields. [5] [6]

Doris was the postmaster of Harden City, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma. Her mother came to visit in late 1942 and died there on Christmas Eve.[7]

According to the obituary of her brother, John A Campbell, Doris and Bruce were living in Harding City, Oklahoma, in March 1945. It seems likely that this is a typo for Harden City as, to date (13Apr2016), Harding City has not been found.[8]

Doris died on 9 June 1972 in Ada, Oklahoma.[1] She shares a gravestone with Bruce in Memorial Park Cemetery, Ada, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma, United States with a death date of June 1972.[9]

Research Notes

  • A 1935 Florida State Census record was found for Doris Campbell. This record was falsely recorded and submitted. It is based on the 1910 Census + 25 years. John, the father, died in 1916. Doris had married and moved to Oklahoma before 1930. Marjorie had married in 1925. John, the son, had married and was enumerated with his wife in Largo. Doris' youngest sister was not born until 1911 so is not included.
