Biography

Elizabeth was born in 1824 in Peace River. She was the daughter of Collin Campbell and Elizabeth McGillivray. ^[1]

She married John Garrioch of the Red River Settlement, by banns and with the consent of her parents on 21 Sep 1843, near the Upper Church at St. John's Church in Red River, Manitoba, Canada. The ceremony was performed by Reverend William Cockran. Their witness was Henry Cook. ^[2]

In 1870 she was living with her husband and eight children in Portage la Prarie, Manitoba. ^[1]

In 1881 she was recorded with her husband John Garioch (67), and children Jessie Garioch (20), Walter T Garioch (18), Maria Garioch (15), W.o.m Garioch (11) in Portage, Marquette, Manitoba, Canada. She was 57 years old, Scottish and her religion was the Church of England. ^[3]

Her husband passed away in Feb 1891 and a few months later during the 1891 census, she was recorded with her children and a border at their home in Marquette, Manitoba. She was 67 years old and the head of the family. Her father's birthplace was listed as Ontario, and her mother was born in the Northwest Territories. Their religion was the Church of England (Anglican). ^[4]

She passed away in 1894 Portage la Prarie at the age of 70 years. She was laid to rest at Saint Marys Anglican Church Cemetery in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada. ^[5]

• 1870 census indicated she was born in Peace River. Unsure what the correct name was in 1824 (needs to be updated)
• She may have died in 1894. Have checked Portage la Prairie newspapers for 1894 and found no record of a Garrioch death listed
• Have checked Manitoba vital statistics for marriage or death and found none
• Have searched Canadiana.ca for records of her birth, marriage or death with no success
