Biography

John Campbell, is a bit of a brick wall in our family as we cannot trace his parents even given all the information we have. So here goes what we do have..

Research Notes

John was born about about 1835.

age in 1862 at Marriage = 31 [1831] (Rothes, Banffshire) - marriage certificate on file , states age 31 and parents as Donald Campbell (Gunsmith) and Jean McPherson

ref. BIRTH: 1871 & 1881 Census' states he was born in Dunfermline, Fife or Fifeshire, have trekked as many resources as could find in my travels!
age in 1871 Census = 39 [1832]
age in 1881 Census = 48 [1833]
age in 1891 Census = 53 [1838] (Living with Daughter Jane Silver m.s Campbell, you can see her in the 1881 Census extract) [1]

He passed away in 1895. (presumably while still living with daughter Jane, so far I cant find a confirmed source for this as a burial could be in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire or Kincardineshire (Fetteressso beside his wife?) but will add if I find

Census Extracts

can't find him 1861, just the year before he got married , I would have expected to find him somewhere about Banffshire (Aberlour, Rothes area etc. but no!)

Family Folklore

There is(was) a vague recollection from a Great Aunt that there was a John who was a bit of a wanderer and possibly only had one arm. I wonder because his wife Catherine consistently gives her place of birth as Alvie, Invernesshire if he wasn't a son of a family who "migrated" from the Highlands to Perth/Fife and then instead of emigrating with them (guesstimate) he "wandered" back North.. any thoughts gratefully received

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
