Mary Ann was born in 1852 in Huncote, Leicestershire,[1] and grew up in the home of her parents Thomas and Mary in Stoney Stanton, Leicestershire,[2] where she became a seamstress.[3] In the spring of 1874 Mary Ann gave birth to a son, John Campton, in Nuneaton, Warwickshire.[4] At about the same time, she married Thomas Edwards, who became the step father of John Campton.[5]
Although prior to her marriage Mary Ann seems always to have been known as Ann (possibly to avoid confusion with her mother Mary), afterwards she is always recorded by he full name of Mary Ann.
Mary Ann and Thomas brought up John and four further children in the Nuneaton area.[6][7][8][9][10]
No indisputable record of Mary Ann's death has yet been discovered, but it is possible that she died in Nuneaton in 1925.[11]
